India's coal production rose 7.51% year-on-year to 69.75 MT in July 2026, while coal dispatch registered a strong 17.34% growth, reflecting steady momentum in the country's energy sector.
New Delhi: India's coal sector registered strong growth in July 2026, with both production and dispatch witnessing significant year-on-year increases, according to data released by the Ministry of Coal.
The country's coal production reached 69.75 million tonnes (MT) (Provisional) during July 2026, registering a 7.51% increase over 64.88 MT produced in July 2025.
Coal dispatch recorded an even stronger performance, rising 17.34% year-on-year to 86.33 MT (Provisional), compared to 73.57 MT dispatched during the corresponding month last year.
The Ministry of Coal said the sustained growth in production and dispatch reflects its continued efforts to ensure reliable coal supplies, operational efficiency and energy security for the country.
During the current financial year, cumulative coal production up to July 2026 stood at 302.24 MT (Provisional), while cumulative coal dispatch reached 354.70 MT (Provisional), recording a 5.87% growth over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) remained the largest contributor to the country's coal output.
CIL produced 50.35 MT of coal in July 2026, registering an 8.42% increase compared to July 2025.
The company also dispatched 63.67 MT of coal during the month, reflecting a 17.43% year-on-year growth. Its cumulative coal dispatch during the financial year up to July also grew 6.81% over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The Ministry of Coal reiterated its commitment to ensuring sustainable growth in the sector by enhancing domestic coal production, improving availability and reducing dependence on imports.
The continued rise in production and dispatch is expected to strengthen India's energy security while supporting industrial growth, electricity generation and the country's expanding economic activity.
