India's National Green Hydrogen Mission achieved a major milestone as ACME Group signed long-term green ammonia and green methanol supply agreements with leading Japanese companies.

New Delhi: India has marked a major milestone in its clean energy transition with ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited (ACME Group) signing long-term export agreements for green ammonia and green methanol with leading Japanese companies under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).
The agreements were signed at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, senior officials of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), representatives of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and executives from ACME Group, IHI Corporation and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC).
Approved in January 2023 with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crore, the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to position India as a global hub for the production, utilisation and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. Under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme, ACME Group has been awarded a production capacity of 370 kilo tonnes per annum (kTPA), providing the foundation for these export-oriented projects.
Under the agreement with IHI Corporation, ACME will supply 405 kTPA of green ammonia. The project is backed by Japan's Contract for Difference (CfD) scheme for low-carbon ammonia, administered by METI, which provides price support to Japanese buyers and ensures the commercial viability of long-term imports.
ACME has also signed a 10-year agreement with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company to supply 100 kTPA of green methanol from its Paradip facility. The project is designed to meet European Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) requirements and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, supporting global decarbonisation efforts, particularly in the maritime sector.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi welcomed Japan's decision to extend CfD support to the ACME-IHI project, stating that it reflects growing international confidence in India's green hydrogen ecosystem. He said the National Green Hydrogen Mission, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is attracting global investments, strengthening international partnerships and creating new export opportunities for Indian green fuels.
MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi said the agreements establish strong market linkages with Japan, demonstrate the commercial maturity of India's green hydrogen sector and pave the way for international green hydrogen value chains.
The agreements are among the largest green ammonia and green methanol export commitments from India to Japan, reinforcing India's emergence as a reliable supplier of clean fuels while supporting Japan's energy transition and long-term energy security objectives.
