BC Census: Former YSRCP MP Margani Bharat demands an immediate BC census, a special BC Commission and a clear roadmap for reservations and political representation.

BC Census: Former YSRCP MP Margani Bharat has demanded an immediate Backward Classes (BC) census and the appointment of a special BC Commission to determine the community’s population accurately and formulate a comprehensive reservation policy.
Addressing the media at the YSRCP headquarters in Tadepalli on Tuesday, Bharat urged the Chandrababu Naidu-led government to pass a resolution in the Assembly and put pressure on the Centre to bring about the necessary constitutional amendments to ensure proportionate political representation for BCs.
Bharat questioned the alleged links between Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh and Birru Pratap Reddy, who had approached the courts over BC reservations.
He asked whether Pratap Reddy had been appointed to a power-sector body through a government order during the TDP regime between 2014 and 2019. He also sought an explanation regarding photographs of Pratap Reddy with TDP leaders. The allegations and questions raised by Bharat require a response from the leaders concerned.
Highlighting the YSRCP government’s record under former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Bharat said the party had provided BCs with six of the 13 Zilla Parishad chairperson posts and approximately 67 per cent of Mandal Parishad president positions.
He also cited nine mayoral posts across 14 municipal corporations, 53 chairperson positions in government corporations and the establishment of 56 dedicated BC corporations. He said BCs were also given substantial representation in agricultural market committees.
Bharat questioned the TDP’s promises to provide 34 per cent and potentially 40 per cent reservations to BCs, asking the government to explain how these commitments would be implemented.
He demanded a clear roadmap specifying the proposed BC representation in Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs), Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), municipal wards, municipal corporations, mayoral positions and Zilla Parishads.
He said political announcements alone would not ensure social justice and called on the TDP to demonstrate its commitment through candidate selection, political appointments and enforceable reservation measures.
Bharat urged the government to introduce concrete measures to improve access to education, employment and economic opportunities for BC communities.
He asserted that the YSRCP would continue its fight until Backward Classes secured adequate political representation, statutory safeguards and social justice.
