Amazon Layoffs: Amazon has announced around 1,000 job cuts globally across its retail business, affecting employees in India, the US and the UK.

Amazon Layoffs: E-commerce major Amazon has announced another round of job cuts, affecting around 1,000 employees globally across its retail business. The layoffs have impacted employees in markets including India, the US and the UK, among others.
An Amazon spokesperson said the workforce reduction was part of the company’s efforts to control costs, streamline operations and move faster on its future priorities.
The latest cuts are largely concentrated in Amazon’s Stores business, with employees in customer service, marketplace support and retail engineering among those affected.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also commented on the latest layoffs in an interview, linking the workforce reductions to the company’s hiring spree during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said Amazon had recruited more employees than required at the time as online orders surged while people remained largely confined to their homes.
The latest announcement comes after Amazon carried out major workforce reductions over the past year. The company reportedly cut around 14,000 jobs towards the end of 2025, followed by another 16,000 job cuts in January 2026, taking the total reduction to about 30,000 employees.
The timing of the latest layoffs has also drawn attention as Amazon’s Great Indian Festival sale begins. The company is offering discounts on a range of products, including smartphones, home appliances, smart televisions and refrigerators, during the festive shopping period.
The latest workforce reduction underscores the continuing focus among major technology and e-commerce companies on cost management and operational efficiency while investing in areas expected to drive future growth.
