Nandan Nilekani-led Examination Reforms Task Force meets Chief Minister
Discussions focus on technology, cybersecurity and reducing student stress
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for comprehensive national examination reforms that take into account India's diversity in languages, education systems and regional backgrounds. He stressed the need for a transparent and credible examination framework developed through consensus among states to ensure equal opportunities for students across the country.
Members of the Examination Reforms High-Powered Task Force, led by its Chairman Nandan Nilekani, met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh welcomed Nilekani on his arrival.
During the interaction, Naidu said the national examination system should reflect the aspirations and expectations of the present generation. He emphasised that reforms must ensure a level playing field for students, irrespective of their state, region or language.
The Chief Minister also underlined that education should go beyond examinations and marks, with greater emphasis on developing students' skills, creativity and critical thinking abilities.
Minister Nara Lokesh outlined the policies being implemented in Andhra Pradesh and explained how technology was being used in governance and education.
He said the examination system should be designed to reduce stress among students. He also called for stronger coordination at the national level to ensure that students do not face difficulties related to language, education systems or certification when moving between states for higher education or employment.
Lokesh explained that Andhra Pradesh was developing a Data Lake to integrate information from different sectors and support more effective decision-making.
Nandan Nilekani said the task force was examining ways to prevent question paper leaks, make effective use of technology, strengthen cybersecurity systems and improve digital forensics capabilities in the examination process.
He said the task force was visiting different states to understand existing policies, identify challenges and gather suggestions for reforms.
Nilekani expressed interest in Andhra Pradesh's initiatives in technology-driven governance and its approach to examination reforms. The discussions also covered the state's technology-based administrative practices and their potential relevance to improving examination systems.
The meeting highlighted the need for a coordinated national approach that combines technological safeguards with fairness, accessibility and the diverse educational needs of students across India.
