YSRCP Demands Strict Action in Guntur Assault Case

Tadepalli: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) on Monday demanded stringent action against those accused in the alleged assault and disrobing of a woman in Guntur, while accusing the Andhra Pradesh Police of failing to respond promptly to the incident.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Tadepalli, Nani alleged that the police did not register a case immediately and acted only after reports of the incident gained widespread attention on social media. He claimed that action was delayed until local political leaders gave their approval, an allegation for which he did not provide evidence.

The former minister also alleged that local TDP leaders had demanded a bribe in connection with the repair of a borewell and sought action against those allegedly involved. He further demanded disciplinary action against the police officials who, according to him, failed to act promptly on the victim's complaint.

Nani alleged that law and order in the State had deteriorated and claimed that political affiliation was influencing the handling of criminal cases. He contended that cases involving ruling party supporters were being registered under less stringent provisions, while opposition leaders and their supporters faced harsher legal action.

The YSRCP leader urged the government to suspend the concerned Circle Inspector (CI) and take strict legal action against all those responsible for the incident, irrespective of their political affiliation.

He also claimed that incidents affecting the safety of women and minors had been reported from different parts of Andhra Pradesh and alleged that there was inconsistency in the police response to such cases.

The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has not publicly responded to the specific allegations made by the YSRCP in this statement. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Guntur incident.
